About the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus
After taking their Third Degree, Knights are eligible to receive their Fourth Degree. The primary duty of a 4th Degree Knight is to foster the spirit of patriotism and to encourage active Catholic citizenship. 4th Degree members, in addition to being members of their individual councils, are also members of 4th Degree Assemblies which typically comprise members of several Councils. The Pulaksi Generals are part of Cardinal Stritch Assembly, #205
Fourth Degree Knights may optionally purchase and wear the full regalia and join an assembly's Color Corps. The Color Corps is the most visible arm of the Knights, as they are often seen in parades and other local events wearing their colorful regalia. Official dress for the Color Corps is a black tuxedo, baldric, white gloves, cape and naval chapeau.
Mass Intentions and Stepouts.
The object for which a priest offers the Eucharistic Sacrifice in known as an Intention. This intention is distinct from the priest's decision to offer Mass, which is necessary for valid celebration. It is also distinct from the effects of the Mass which benefit those who take part in the sacrifice and attend the Mass. These are called the special fruits of the Mass and extensively are without limit, as are also the effects on the entire Church, called the general fruits of the Mass.
Mass intentions refer to the particular purpose for which a specific Mass is offered. This may be to honor God or thank him for blessings received. But technically a Mass intention means that the sacrifice is offered for some person(s) living or dead.
Several times a year the Knights of Columbus will ask that the intention of a Mass be on our behalf. When such an Intention is granted, the Knights of the Fourth Degree will form an Honor Guard as a sign of respect and to offer loyal service to the Holy Trinity. This action commonly refered to a Stepout. The Knights also perform Stepouts for other special Masses on invitation from the Pastor.
